link exchange1 300x300 Working With Link ExchangesAs you create your online business you will quickly find that connecting with other websites is an extremely difficult part of being a webmaster or blogger. There are ways to connect with other webmasters and usually you will be able to gain one way backlinks from such places as article directories and directories. These links are of course good to gather, but they do not offer the same strength as a link from a related website. There are many ways to go about exchanges, but you should be aware of who you are exchanging links with. Make sure they are a good webmaster not gaining links from black hat sources such as link farms or other spammy places. You want to build links on websites that build links from white hat sources and offer unique helpful content.

The most basic form of link exchange is when you use DMOZ or Google to search for a website that correctly counters yours. You do not want to build links from websites which are in direct competition so if you have an internet marketing website do not build links from websites that also are about internet marketing. Now if they are closely related such as an internet marketing website and a social marketing website the exchange can be quite helpful. For my blog online business ideas I really like exchanging with more niche specific websites such as internet marketing websites, affiliate marketing websites, product creation websites, anything that has to do with online business.

If you want to start exchanging links there is several options you can take. The first is becoming active on the website that you want to exchange links with. In most cases this has to do with finding blogs that are closely related to your website and begin commenting. This will build the relationship with you and the blogger and once it has reached a point where you both are comfortable you can discuss cross promotion such as a link exchange or guest post. Another way to go about finding link exchange partners is by sending emails. This is one of the oldest methods of internet marketing and link exchanges. There are some who think that creating a template is the best way, but from my experience when creating a template it will be easily detectable by the webmaster you are emailing and you will be much less likely to receive a response. So if you decide to email a webmaster about a link exchange you should write the email making it much more personal. List the reasons why you think that your website and their website would make good partners. The last way to find link exchanging partners is joining programs which allow you to easily find people who are also interested in link exchanges. The website I use the most is linkmarket.com they have over a hundred thousand websites and have helped exchange over five million links.

There is much more you need to know about internet marketing so if you enjoyed this article read more like it at my make money blog.
