But before we delve into keywords, I’d like to address a five basic facts regarding the workings of search engines.
SEO Networker Tip No. 1 – Search Engines Don’t Rank Websites, They Rank Web Pages
Each page on your website should have its own unique title, description and keyword meta tags. Ideally, you should target just one keyword/phrase on each page. This allows you to narrow your focus and get the best results out of each of your site’s pages. You can use combinations of your keywords as well if you see a lot of people searching for these combined keyword phrases, but you’ll want to create separate pages which are optimized for these combinations.
SEO Networker Tip No. 2 – Make Sure Your Site’s Content is Designed for the Reader
It is easy to get caught up in keywords and search engine optimization and forget about your reader. This is a common mistake. You must keep in mind that your visitors and readers are your reason for having the website and if they are interested in what your web site has to say, you will lose them. Be careful not to become so focused on getting your keyword count up that your content becomes uninteresting. A number one ranking for search engines will not do you much good if that is the case.
SEO Networker Tip No. 3 – Don’t Try To Optimize Your Site For Too Many Different Keywords
You should optimize your site for somewhere between five and ten keywords in total. Make your content relevant to these terms so that you’ll be able to move up in the search engine page rankings for these keywords. It’s better to rank in the first page of results for one keyword than it is to rank on the second or third for any number of keywords. These keywords should appear in your meta tags.
SEO Networker Tip No. 4 – Keep Your Content High Quality And Update Often
Adding new content to your website on a regular basis will not only keep your site interesting for your readers, it will improve its ranking with search engines. Every time new content is added, search engines will re-index it and this will improve your page rankings. We’ve already established that your readers are of utmost importance so your goal should be to keep them interested and entertained. New content will give them a reason to return to your site.
SEO Networker Tip No. 5 – Think of Your Links as the Story Line of Your Site
Search engines like a site that has many incoming links to other sites, particularly if the linked site is a popular one. Therefore, it is important to develop links from other sites that have similar content. It is not a good idea to rush out and set up a whole bunch of links all at once. Links that develop slowly and naturally over time are most impressive to search engines.
