I’m George Tiganus and I’m back with a new article, this time about improving your site’s rank with search engines such as Google.
Ranking high with the search engines is what brings the traffic to your website, and if your website shows up in the first results for the keywords people are searching for, this is good for business!
Traffic is profit!
So let’s go ahead and briefly talk about the SEO concept.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and you have to make your websites SEO friendly in order to get them to rank high on Google.
This kind of optimization depends on various aspects, and we will discuss some of them, so that you can understand what they mean and how you can make them work for you.
If I had to choose the most important aspect of improving your site’s Google Rankings, I would undoubtedly go for BACKLINKING.
But what exactly is backlinking?
First of all you need to imagine the search engines like non-stop analyzers of the content from all the websites on the internet.
That is a pretty accurate description of the search engines’ job. They study the information on each website, they determine how relevant that information is on a particular topic and use this as a criterion for their rankings.
But there is more to your website’s relevance than just the data you provide there. There are countless sites on pretty much every topic you can think of, and a lot of them have content just as valid as yours.
Another indication of relevance is the number of times a site is linked throughout the internet.
Out of two sites on the same topic, the one that is referenced through more links over the internet will be considered more helpful for the users looking for info on that topic.
These references, also known as inbound links, incoming links or backlinks, are external links that lead back to you.
Ideally, the more valuable content you provide, the more backlinks you should get.
A backlink is recognized by Google as a recommendation so, naturally, they consider them important in establishing page ranks.
For example, I’m sure you’ve found Wikipedia in the top of Google results for a lot of the searches you’ve performed. Why do you think that is? 75,000,000 domain backlinks!!! (I know it is insane, but it’s TRUE!)
So backlinks are THAT important. Then how do I get them?
There are several ways to do that and the most common are:
- reciprocated links – finding a site to link to and have it link back to yours
- forum signature links – forums allow signatures for posts and signatures can include links
- blog comments – insert your link in your comments on high ranked blogs
- links from article directories, video sharing websites and other content-based websites
Naturally, the more such backlinks your site has, the higher it will be ranked on search engines.
But don’t get ahead of yourself and buy some backlink generating software that gets you a thousand links a day!
This could work for a while but you can get seriously penalized and even banned from Google, which would make all your efforts useless.
