You Can Be An SEO Guru

If you want to be a “guru” at search engine optimization there are just a few steps you need to follow. Soon you will be able to either make a lot of money online with your own websites or be able to have people hire you to do optimization for their site. The following are some things you need to do.
You will want to start about 5 websites so that you have a good base to perform experiments. You will never need to have any of these sites rank at number one to land clients, though it would help. Most people are happy with you getting a first page ranking for a good keyword. 5 sites ranked in the top 10 will bring some prospects into your client base.
Make sure to keep track of any changes you do, how long they take to work and what the results of them are. Also be patient, I have made changes before that appeared to kill my rankings but then in 2 weeks I actually jumped way above where I was originally ranked. Very few things will show positive results in just a few hours or even days for that matter.
Learn a science to finding keywords. Use things like the number of searches, the number of ranked sites or the competitive index on keywords. You need to know how to identify words you can actually rank for and then put those words into action. There is a fine line between a competitive keyword and a monster that you will never rank for.
Get sub pages to the top of the engines too. Show potential clients that you can get multiple pages ranked, or have multiple entry points into your own site so you can make money. I like to target 3 keywords on my main page and then a long tail keyword or two on sub pages which are also entry points. This keeps my flow of traffic up with multiple phrases.
